This forum is to upload the pictures of the art I am producing for this topic. All drawings and paintings are done from secondary perspective, using a bunch of donated photographs from friends, family and some are inspired from my own body.
Sketch#14 - Donated by a friend. Sketched with permission using 8B pencil and cotton buds. I found this a challenge because of the breast position, causing the nipples to be different from each other. Yet, they are both the same/extremely close in resemblance usually but the positioning of the body itself and the lighting caused the nipple differences. Overall I liked drawing this piece.
Sketch#15 - Taken off google images. I found this also challenging because of the positioning of the male model's body and how his posture was (standing with hips lunged forward) so I feel this one maybe isn't one of my best pieces but I feel with the glans popping out, this gave me a good foreskin-to-no foreskin ratio for my sketches. I am unsure whether this penis was circumcised or the foreskin had been peeled back to reveal the glans. As it was taken from google, one shall never know. However, I quite liked the additional details of the veins and markings up the shaft of the penis. I also found the position and shape more challenging yet satisfying to attempt a decent sketch out of.
Sketch#10 - A breast sketched from secondary perspective off a donated nude photograph a friend had given to me for this purpose as she wanted to help spread awareness of rape culture. I used 8B pencil, cotton buds and a putty eraser. I was fascinated by the particular placement of this breast as all the others have seemed quite pert, whereas this particular one seems to droop ever so slightly, causing the nipples to become off-centered and lower on the breast. I really like this look and was a very interesting picture to draw.
Sketch#11 - Using the same resources, I sketched this penis off of a donated picture. I really wanted to emphasize the details of the male genitalia in this one. The photograph was of an uncircumcised penis with a lot of foreskin, hence why the tip (Glans) is not showing. I liked adding the veins to the shaft, as well as the extra hair detail to the scrotum.
Sketch#12 - This was sketched from a photograph I had found on google images. I found most of the female genital pictures (not breasts) on google and other more pornographic websites, due to the fact that women are more comfortable showing their breasts rather than their other intimate areas. I put this down to the fact that, all though highly sexualised - breasts are not actually sexual organs. They have been sexualised over the years by the porn industry and people (mainly men) who have spent their time objectifying the female body. Whereas, the Vagina and surrounding areas, are indeed sexual reproductive organs. I feel this is why women are less likely to share their lower areas than they are their breasts.
Sketch#13 - A friend's breast, donated for the purpose of this project. Her figure is very petite and toned and gave me a good challenge compared to the more plumped photographs I had been using for the sketches and paintings. Her breasts are pert but small, yet oddly round. She too, has been victim to sexual harassment and assault (sometimes even at work) and she was more than happy to allow me to sketch and draw her figure for this project as it's something that is very deep to her and women all around. The men who helped me with their pictures because they also feel quite strongly about the subject. However, I have promised to keep all identities secret because of confidentiality and privacy concerns.
Painting#2 - I really love this piece. Modeled off my own photograph. I used a different watercolour set to create this and the paints just flowed with the brush. All of the highlights compliment the painting and all of the shading is in the right places. The fleshy tones were so pleasant to create and mix together for this piece. Higher quality paints really do make all the difference. However, although I love and adore this piece, I feel it is too beautiful for the subject theme I have chosen. Rape is not beautiful. Rape culture is not aesthetically pleasing nor is it supposed to be. With other people's critique and opinions, I had to agree this piece did not fit my aspired outcome; so while it is very beautiful and one of my favourite pieces, I shall keep this as evidence of experimentation.
Painting#1 - I won't lie, I do not like this one at all. The picture I used was one of my own and had great potential artistic value. However, cheap watercolour paints ruined it. The paints themselves came out very watery and transparent; even after several layers, the colours were still very pale and unattractive. As a person who enjoys watercolour art and uses it rather a lot in my own portfolios, this particular pallet was uncomfortable and awkward to work with. The overall outcome was not desirable so I attempted to go over some details with the black biro pen and while this solves some of the issues, it unfortunately highlighted how pale the paints actually are. I have since binned the pallet because I was very unsatisfied with what it left me. However, it is still going up because art is all about experimenting and trying new methods, brands and techniques. Even though I was not pleased, it still shows some great attempt at experimentation.
Sketch#9 - I really love this one in particular because of the shading and the tonal changes. At first, I didn't like it because I had been using the wrong pencil and then added extra details and shading back with the 8B pencil, using a cotton bud and my finger to smudge. I really liked the outcome as it appeared more 3D and has a darker aura to it. This sketch was done from a picture found off google images when I was looking up vertical nipple piercings.
Full Body Sketch#1 - This is based off a photograph of a model I found on a pornographic website. I chose this model in particular because the body posture was an interesting one and I thought it would be a new challenge for me to draw. I also wanted to experiment with anatomy and whether close-ups or further away drawings were better. I really like both but feel maybe the close-ups work better for detail. On the other hand, I shall attempt another one or two of these styled-drawings for the evidence of experimentation part of this project, but also to see if my ideals are based off this sketch alone or just the differences in style.
Sketch#3 - Sketched from a personally donated photograph, using 8B pencil and cotton buds. I like this piece but I'm not in-love with it. I feel it could've used some darker tones to create more of a shadow-like depth. This drawing isn't an exact replica because the areola are smaller than in the photograph. This was the 3rd attempt though so errors are to be made.
Sketch#8 - Based off a photograph of my own breasts. Used an 8B pencil, a putty eraser and a cotton bud. There is something rather unusual about sketching and drawing yourself because it has to look spot-on but at the same time, you become tempted to improve the drawing and that just makes it unrealistic. This drawing however, is completely natural and an almost exact replica of the photograph.
Sketch#2 - Using 8B pencil again for the outlining and shaded areas, then used a cotton bud to smudge the details. Inspired from a photograph that was donated. I loved the details in this piece because of the flesh crinkles and folds on and around the stomach area; the natural curves and stretchmarks make a more detailed and 3D piece of art.
Sketch#1 - Using 8B pencil to sketch the breast details and then smudged in the shading using a cotton bud. Designed off a friend's donated photograph for me to use. I have never drawn or painted nudes before so this one here was my very first attempt at anatomical life drawing. I really appreciated the outcome of my first ever nude drawing attempt. Breasts are so beautiful and interesting to draw and paint due to the fact that they are all different and come in all shapes, sizes and colours.
Sketch#4 & Sketch#5 - Donated nude photographs given to me for intentional drawing and painting purposes. These are drawings of the same penis but in different positions. Again, I found using the 8B pencil was much more sufficient for the effects I wanted. I also used more cotton buds for extra depth and detail. I really enjoy sketching the male body, there is something oddly satisfying about the natural artistic curves and details of the human body. The reasons for using male genitalia are more explained, in-depth, down below on #6 and #7.
Sketch#6 & Sketch#7 - Studied, sketched and drawn from more donated photographs of the same penis. The 6th picture shows a flaccid penis and the 7th shows and erect penis. I included male genitalia into my work to prove a point that rape happens to everyone, not just women. Men also get raped and receive unwanted sexual attention. However, on top of this, I wanted to use male genitalia to also counteract that point. Every woman I know, including myself, has received unwanted and unsolicited nudes and "dick pics" - out of absolutely nowhere, with almost zero context or consent. Women are also harassed and sometimes emotionally blackmailed into sending nude photographs of themselves, back. When it gets reported or someone speaks out, the responses are unnerving and make victims feel pathetic or dramatic for speaking out. "I get that all the time, you're not special" or "So? Just delete and block them. No big deal". Yes, it is a big deal. This is sexual harassment. This is Rape Culture.
